Cleaning Silver Jewelry
How to clean your silver jewelry.
Silver jewelry will gradually darken if left exposed to air, especially if any sulphur is present.
The basic cleaning method
After you take-off your Silver jewelry , you should polish it with a jewelry cloth (if you don't have one, you can use a lens cloth).
When you are not wearing your silver jewelry, you had better keep it in an airtight container (a special bag for silver jewelry or a plastic bag).
Also, you should store them individually to prevent metal-to-metal scratching.
If your silver jewelry has become dirty
- Clean with water (or warm water) and soap (a neutral detergent). You can use a soft brush.
- Polish with warm water and baking soda. Use a soft brush. It may take time to clean the piece. It depends on the stain.
- Polish with Jewelry Cleaner. There are many types of cleaner. Please inquire before purchasing any cleaner to make sure it will not damage your jewelry. Don't use silver cleaner on gemstones or pearls. Never use dips or abrasive cleaners on gemstones and pearls.
- You can polish silver with toothpaste, but it may cause scratches or discoloration, it depends on the paste. I don't recommend using toothpaste for Jewelry.
